These days everyone has their list of things you can do to make yourself not feel like a goblin at home. I never knew how much our appearance was connected to how we feel, until this pandemic caused everything to shut down. Having a purpose helps us to get through our day, but when you don’t have to get out of your pajamas and your commute is from your bedroom to your living room, things start to feel monotonous.
So here is one more list of things you can do change things up. Having a routine, even if it is unnecessary things, can make us feel like we accomplished something today and that will help with our mental state, while we are in this “not moving forward, but not going backward” time. Body brushing – I chose this video from Goop because they get right to the point. Do not get your body brush wet, it will mold. Body brushing is meant to do dry, before you get in the shower.
Boar Bristle Body Brush I like this one because of the handle but there are so many different options!
Sheet Masks – This exact mask is my absolute favorite. No other mask that I’ve tried has given me results like this one. Also, 10 masks for $23??? You cannot beat that!
Jelly Masks – these fun, gooey masks have been in the spa for decades (we used to use them at Bliss Spa) and they are all over the web right now. They supposedly create a vacuum once applied, which forces the beneficial ingredients into your skin.
1. 4 pack $32
2. 10 pack $94
3. Mixing bowl set – so you can do it like a pro! $13
Shaving – I know this seems too easy, but how good do you feel when you’ve shaved, moisturized, and you climb into fresh sheets on the bed? Isn’t that the best feeling?? A lot of gals are messaging me about waxing at home. I do not recommend this. Wax is NOT an easy skill, there is no youtube video that is going to explain this, you will most likely remove skin and hurt yourself. If you can’t shave, use Nair.
Moisturize – again it seems easy, but don’t skip the small stuff. It’s the little steps we take that yield the big results. YOU are enough of a reason to take care of yourself, I understand we’re all shuffling around our homes muttering “what’s the point?” but taking care of yourself will give you some self-worth and if you are struggling right now, that is important. I use either UNREFINED cold-pressed organic coconut oil (NOT the kind for cooking, it should smell like coconut and look lumpy in the jar) or I use Nivea.
Box Job Hair Dye – I don’t know where in the world you are reading this from, but I’m in Los Angeles and it feels like we were one of the first to shut down, and the last to open up. But we will be opening salons soon, and I personally cannot wait to have my highlights again. This is something we cannot do at home. I’ve tried. It was so bad you guys. However, you CAN apply color to your roots if your grey is growing out or you need a refresher. Many stylists are creating kits for their clients or recommending a drugstore brand until we can get back into the salon.
Move Your Body – this is the one we don’t want to hear, but we know it’s true. If you get some exercise, even a 30 minute walk, it will 1000% help. There are SO MANY WAYS to workout at home, virtually, with a trainer, with YOUR trainer, with friends, with an app. Moving your body is more important than face masks, shaving, body brushing, even changing your clothes…except for your panties. Girl, change your panties.
Udemy – Udemy is an online learning platform and they have several FREE courses! If you have nothing to do, learn something. Sometimes our brain can feel like a goblin too. Self care isn’t just about the body, it is mostly about the mind. I took three different lash courses and a how-to Instagram posting. It was like going to school again, and it gave me structure.
If you are struggling to keep a routine and differentiate your days, make a to-do list every day, even if it is the silliest things. Write it down on paper (I love crossing things off my to-do list) and complete as many tasks as possible. If you are not working, find projects that need to be done – even if it is a face mask, or washing your windows, or watching a YouTube on a new skill, make YOU your job.
